Nobody really knows who drew it first or where it came from.  Often referred to as Kilroy, Chad, or Smoe; the unmistakable big nosed, bald headed character appeared all over the European and Pacific theatres of World War II. Marked on bombed out walls, ship hulls, barracks rooms, and battlefields this piece of graffiti marked the presence of Allied troops wherever they went. It often appeared in places no one could explain, so much so that it is rumored to have been brought to the attention of Adolf Hitler by German intelligence, who suspected that it may have been code for a high level Allied spy. Although there is alot of speculation surrounding the history of this marking, one thing is certain, it meant that someone had made it through.

Kilroy was here.
